About Paul
Paul McGivern, K.C. is a director at Pacific Medical Law and a senior litigator who acts exclusively for plaintiffs in medical negligence and infant birth trauma cases. He has practised for 39 years, including 17 years as medical malpractice defence counsel before moving to plaintiff-side work, and has appeared as lead counsel at every level of court in British Columbia and before the Supreme Court of Canada. McGivern is a founding member of the Birth Injury Lawyers Alliance of Canada and has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in Canada since its inaugural 2007 edition, including as Vancouver's Lawyer of the Year for Medical Negligence (2016, 2019, 2021) and Personal Injury (2020, 2024). He served as an adjunct professor of law at the University of British Columbia, teaching civil procedure for 18 years, and is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia and the Trial Lawyers Association of BC.
