Nicholas Scheib has practised law in Montreal since the early 2000s and now does so through Scheib Legal, which he founded. He is qualified in Quebec, appears frequently in its courts, has appeared in Ontario courts on insolvency matters, and is called to the New York State Bar, though he does not practise New York law. His practice concentrates on insolvency and restructuring, primarily representing owners, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders. Early in his career he trained with insolvency and restructuring lawyer Max Mendelsohn at McMillan LLP and worked on major matters including the restructurings of Air Canada, AbitibiBowater, Quebecor World, Ivaco and Yellow Media, representing the federal and Ontario governments in GM Canada's 2008 financing, and arguing for bondholders before the Supreme Court of Canada in the BCE/Bell Canada going-private transaction. He also acts as local Quebec counsel and conflicts-referral agent for other law firms, including for insolvency trustees and accounting firms. He holds Common Law and Civil Law degrees from McGill University (2001) and worked in Hong Kong during law school at the firm Deacons and at the Hong Kong office of Paul Weiss.
