About Michael

Michael P. Bird has practised law in Brockville and Ottawa since moving from the Toronto firm of Holden~Day~Wilson in 1994. A Brockville native, he is a graduate of Queen's University and Osgoode Hall Law School. His practice covers real estate law, civil litigation, wills and estates, family law and mental health law. In real estate, his experience spans residential and commercial purchases, sales and financings across Ontario. In civil litigation, he has appeared before the Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Divisional Court, the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Federal Court of Canada. As a mental health law advocate with 25 years of experience, he regularly appears before the Consent and Capacity Board and the Ontario Review Board, and he lectures at the University of Ottawa Law School. He has served as a director of the Leeds and Grenville Non-Profit Housing Corporation and the St. Lawrence Stage Company, and spent a decade on the board of the Lanark, Leeds and Grenville branch of the Victorian Order of Nurses, including eight years as its president.
