About Michael
Michael Hoogbruin is a lawyer at Hoogbruin & Company who has practised almost exclusively in personal injury law since 1987, representing plaintiffs exclusively since 1992 after his first five years representing ICBC defendants. While a first-year law student at Osgoode Hall Law School, he and another student successfully sued the Government of British Columbia over absentee ballot voting rights, a case that became a leading Charter of Rights and Freedoms precedent (Hoogbruin v. British Columbia (Attorney General)). He has represented clients at all levels of court in British Columbia, including Small Claims Court, Supreme Court jury and judge-alone trials, and the Court of Appeal. Michael earned his undergraduate degree at Simon Fraser University and his Juris Doctor at Osgoode Hall Law School, and is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Law Society of British Columbia, the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia, and the American Association for Justice.
