Madeleine Lamothe-Samson founded MLS Legal in 2016 after roughly 20 years of intellectual property practice, including several years as a partner at a national firm that later became international. She practices intellectual property litigation, copyright, trademark and entertainment law, advising businesses of all sizes and helping clients avoid disputes where possible. She has represented clients before the Federal Court and the Superior Court of Quebec, the Copyright Board of Canada, and in various arbitrations, and regularly negotiates settlements on clients' behalf. Madeleine Lamothe-Samson served as president of the Canadian chapter of the Association litteraire et artistique internationale (ALAI), a body recognized by the World Intellectual Property Organization, for five years until 2016. She has been named an IP Star by Managing Intellectual Property magazine, is listed among leading IP practitioners in Best Lawyers and Lexpert, and received Best Lawyers' 2025 Lawyer of the Year award for entertainment law. She holds an LL.B. from Universite Laval and an LL.M. from the University of Toronto, and is a member of the Barreau du Quebec and a registered trademark agent.
