Criminal Defence
Administrative & Regulatory LawLouis Belleau has practiced criminal, penal and disciplinary law since 1981. He has appeared before all levels of criminal courts in Quebec and occasionally outside the province, including numerous appearances before the Supreme Court of Canada, which appointed him amicus curiae in four cases. He has published articles on criminal law and taught the subject at the Quebec Bar School. He served as counsel and then vice-president of the Montreal Association of Criminal Lawyers and was president of the Quebec Bar's Committee on Criminal Legislation, and currently sits on the Supreme Court Advocacy Institute and the National Committee on Jury Instructions. He received the Merit of the Quebec Interprofessional Council, the Prix Reconnaissance from the Montreal Association of Criminal Defence Lawyers, and the Merit of the Quebec Bar, and was designated Advocatus Emeritus (Ad. E.) in 2005. He became a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2012 and a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America. In 2014, the Quebec Association of Criminal Defence Lawyers gave him the Antonio Lamer Career Achievement Award, and Best Lawyers named him Lawyer of the Year in criminal defense for the Montreal area in 2019, 2021 and 2024.
