About Fernando

Fernando Belton is the founding partner of Belton Avocats. He holds a bachelor's degree in law from the Université du Québec à Montréal, a master's degree in criminal law from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University, and a certificate in entrepreneurship from Harvard Business School. He was called to the Barreau du Québec in 2015 and practises criminal law before courts across Quebec, including appeals before the Quebec Court of Appeal and the Ontario Court of Appeal, and has argued before the Supreme Court of Canada in Attorney General of Quebec v. Luamba. Belton has directed the Clinique juridique de Saint-Michel, which he co-founded, since 2019, and sits on the board of Justice Pro Bono. He has taught racial profiling law at universities across Quebec and at the University of Ottawa, and trains lawyers and judges for the Barreau du Québec, the Quebec Court of Appeal, the Federal Court and the Commission des droits de la personne. His writing on evidence of racial profiling has been cited in case law, and his work has received several professional and community honours, including the Young Bar of Montreal's Social Involvement award and recognition from the Quebec National Assembly.
