Leslie J. Smith has practised employment law in Ontario since her call to the bar in 1988, and has also worked as a Mediator, an Arbitrator, and a Small Claims Court Deputy Judge in Halton County for 17 years (2003-2021), a role open only to lawyers with at least 10 years of practice experience. Within employment law, she advises on hiring, terminations, disability claims, discrimination, leave of absence management, harassment, and employment contracts, and conducts workplace investigations, including into allegations of moral failure in religious workplaces. Earlier in her career she practised in personal injury, insurance law, human rights, tort and contract litigation, commercial litigation, real estate, and estate planning. She was a legal columnist for the Burlington Post for 17 years, has spoken at the Ontario Bar Association Institute and the Christian Legal Fellowship National Conference, and published the book 'Legal Ease - Essential Legal Strategies to Protect Canadian Non-Union Employees' in 2014.
