About Karen
Karen Stewart grew up in Calgary, Alberta, and earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Calgary in 1979 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1982. She articled at a large Calgary law firm and was called to the Alberta bar in 1984, focusing early in her career on civil litigation. In 1987 she earned an LLM from the University of Cambridge, and in 1990 she worked with the UN High Commission for Refugees in Belize, drafting that country's Refugee Act. She became a member of the Law Society of British Columbia in 1991 and moved to Parksville, where she has provided legal services to residents for over 30 years. She has served as a director of the Oceanside Hospice Society, vice president of the Vancouver Island Opera Society, and a member of the Parksville Chamber of Commerce.
