About Justin
Justin Safayeni's litigation practice focuses on administrative and public law, media and defamation law, and commercial litigation and appeals, and he has served as lead counsel at the Supreme Court of Canada on multiple occasions. His administrative law work includes judicial reviews and hearings before bodies such as the Ontario Securities Commission and the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and he has argued constitutional challenges involving freedom of expression and other Charter rights. On the defamation side he acts for both plaintiffs and defendants and has a particular interest in anti-SLAPP proceedings, having written and lectured on the topic and represented interveners in leading Supreme Court cases. He earned his JD from the University of Toronto and clerked for Justices Laskin, Goudge, and MacFarland at the Ontario Court of Appeal in 2009-2010. Justin graduated as gold medalist from Wilfrid Laurier's business program and has since developed a particular expertise in civil forfeiture proceedings.
