Jonathan McGillivray is a partner at Resilient LLP, where his practice focuses on climate change and clean energy law in the context of the transition to a net-zero economy. He advises domestic and international clients on climate and net-zero strategy, decarbonization initiatives, carbon finance, renewable energy projects, and carbon-related transactions such as emission reduction and carbon removal purchase agreements and sustainable fuels agreements, as well as biodiversity transactions and energy regulatory compliance. His work also includes advising proponents, investors, and standards organizations on carbon markets investments, governance, and regulatory compliance. He has appeared before administrative tribunals, including the Ontario Energy Board, and various appellate courts, and regularly attends the UNFCCC climate negotiations. McGillivray holds joint common law and civil law degrees from McGill University, where he served as an editor of the McGill Journal of Sustainable Development Law and co-chaired the Green Law Committee. He also holds a Master of Arts in climate science and policy from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in international development from the University of Guelph. He has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in Canada: Ones to Watch and was called to the Ontario bar in 2017, where he is a member of the Law Society of Ontario.
