About Joanne

Joanne Roulston is a lawyer, accredited mediator (ADRIO), registered social worker, and former federal government executive. Her work focuses on family law, coercive control, and social policy, with particular attention to child and family relations, income security, and public systems. She has testified before parliamentary committees and served as an OECD national expert on children's programming. Before entering private practice, she worked as a federal executive managing policy, research, and program evaluation projects, and previously served as a child protection social worker. Roulston has held leadership roles including Co-Chair of the Expert Panel on Income Security at the Council on Aging of Ottawa and former Vice-President of the Ontario Association of Family Mediators, Ottawa Chapter. She teaches part-time as a professor of social work at Carleton University and holds an MSW and a JD.
