Indigenous LawJessica Belisle is a sole practitioner in Sault Ste. Marie practising exclusively in criminal defence, serving clients across the Algoma District before the Ontario Court of Justice, the Superior Court of Justice, and the Provincial Offences Court. She is Anishinaabe Kwe, with family roots in Thessalon, Ontario. Jessica earned a Bachelor of Arts in Anishinaabemowin from Algoma University, attended the Program of Legal Studies for Native People in 2013, and graduated with a Juris Doctor from the University of Saskatchewan in 2016. During law school she completed a clinical placement at C.L.A.S.S.I.C., a poverty law clinic in Saskatoon, where she developed an interest in criminal law. She was called to the bar on January 26, 2018 and is a member of the Indigenous Bar Association and the Criminal Lawyers Association.
