About Jeff

Jeff Young is a Vancouver entertainment lawyer with more than 35 years of experience, having worked on productions including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The New Addams Family, and Breaker High in the 1990s, and serving as the first Olympic digital rights lawyer during the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. He began his career practicing corporate and real estate law for about 10 years, during which he acted as counsel on one of the largest business immigration cases in Canada, a case ultimately decided by the Supreme Court of Canada, before moving into entertainment law. He has served as Director of Contracts and Chief Negotiator for the Union of BC Performers, on the board of the Whistler Film Festival, and as secretary to the Screen Composers Guild of Canada. He has negotiated with entertainment and media companies including Netflix, Amazon, Apple, Disney, Sony, and Warner. Jeff has taught film law and new media law at UBC and BCIT, was the founding head of the Entertainment Business Management Diploma Program at Vancouver Film School, and currently teaches entertainment law and intellectual property as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Victoria's Faculty of Law. He also works as a film composer and music producer.
