About Jay
Jay Shepherd has practised law for over 37 years, with a focus on energy and regulatory matters. He has been lead counsel for the School Energy Coalition since 2003, representing Ontario's school boards in the energy regulatory environment, and has served as regulatory counsel for the HVAC Coalition since 1995 and for the Ontario Geothermal Association since 2016. He was called to the Ontario bar in 1980 and worked as a tax lawyer before shifting his practice toward energy and technology clients in the 1990s. Jay was one of the founders of what is now the Association of Power Producers of Ontario in 1985 and later served on its board, including a term as president. He taught tax law as an adjunct professor at Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, for more than a decade and published a book, The Law of Fiduciaries, in 1981. He is also active in socially responsible investing and served a term as president of the Responsible Investment Association of Canada.
