About Heather Caron

Heather Caron is a Kitchener family lawyer who acts for one spouse or the other, married or common law, on custody, access, divorce and support. As principal of Caron Family Law, Heather keeps the work mainly matrimonial, and a file can move by litigation, mediation or collaborative law. Much of the job is helping clients set realistic expectations and get through the stress that comes with a separation.

Heather was called to the bar in 2002 and has more than 20 years in practice, both in court and out of it. That experience also reaches into criminal law and child and family services matters. Heather's cases have run through the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice, Heather has argued before the Court of Appeal for Ontario, and Heather has acted for inmates facing disciplinary hearings at the Grand Valley Federal Institution for Women.

The road to law was a personal one. Many years ago Heather was in an abusive marriage and, after deciding to end it, spent several months at Anselma House. Heather then went back to finish high school, earned an undergraduate degree, was accepted to all three programs applied to, and went on to law school. In Heather's words, domestic violence was the impetus for going back to school. That history shapes the work in the office too, since Heather draws on that experience and probes a little further when a client is vague.

A lifelong resident of Waterloo Region, Heather has cycled many kilometres of its roads and spent many hours hiking its woods and countryside. To women dealing with abuse, Heather's message is simple: there's help, and there's hope.
