About Hadayt
Hadayt Nazami is the founder of Nazami & Associates and practises exclusively in immigration and refugee law, with an appellate focus on national security, inadmissibility, and Charter and human rights matters before the Federal Court and the Supreme Court of Canada. He argued Canada (Minister of Citizenship and Immigration) v. Vavilov, the 2019 Supreme Court decision that reshaped the framework for judicial review of administrative decisions. His past work includes representing clients before the Iacobucci Inquiry into the detention and torture of Canadian citizens abroad, acting for Tamil refugees who arrived on the MV Sun Sea and Ocean Lady, and representing a family that challenged a disability-based inadmissibility finding, a case credited with a subsequent change to immigration law. He holds a B.A. (Hons.) and an M.A. in Political Science from York University and a J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School, and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2004. He is a refugee himself and speaks several languages.
