About Elaine

Elaine Chan advises clients on business formation, commercial leasing, corporate reorganization, franchising and licensing, the purchase and sale of businesses, real estate transactions and related notarial work. Much of that practice is cross-border, acting for new immigrants and for non-residents with affairs to settle on either side of a move to or from Canada. Born in Hong Kong, Elaine came to Winnipeg with family in 2012, and holds a Bachelor of Laws (2001) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (2002) from the University of Hong Kong, along with a Master of PRC Laws from Renmin University of China (2007). Elaine qualified as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 2004 and remains a practising member of the Law Society of Hong Kong, a standing that allows work on Hong Kong matters for clients in Canada and on Canadian matters for clients in Hong Kong. Elaine sits on the board of the Hong Kong Canada Business Association's Winnipeg section and on the policy committee of the Fort Garry Women's Resource Centre, and has been appointed a course reviewer in business law by the Canadian Centre for Professional Legal Education. Practice languages are English, Cantonese and Mandarin.
