About David

David Derfel is a partner at Devry Smith Frank LLP, working within the firm's personal injury, estates, and commercial litigation groups. He completed his law degree at the University of Windsor and was called to the Ontario bar in 2002, joining DSF as an associate soon after. Over his career he has built expertise in plaintiff personal injury, medical malpractice, estate litigation, criminal defence, insurance defence litigation, and corporate and commercial law, and now plays a role in decisions affecting the firm's litigation practice. David has represented clients at jury and non-jury trials in the Superior Court of Justice and before tribunals including the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, the Licence Appeals Tribunal, and the CPP Appeals Tribunal. He has also presented on topics such as chronic pain, the Insurance Act, and structuring large settlements.
