About David

David A.S. Roper is an associate at Der Barristers who practices exclusively in criminal law. Born and raised in Toronto, he moved to Calgary as a young adult and later played Junior A hockey for the Flin Flon Bombers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, serving as team captain in his final year. He earned a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics and Finance from the University of Guelph, then completed his law degree at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland. He gained eligibility to practice law in Canada through the National Committee on Accreditation and articled under Balfour Der, K.C. before being called to the Alberta bar. His practice covers sexual assault, robbery, break and enter, drug trafficking, assault, and constitutional challenges, and he has also worked as co-counsel on murder, manslaughter, and Supreme Court of Canada appeals. He is a member of the Law Society of Alberta, the Calgary Bar Association, and the Calgary Criminal Lawyers' Association.
