About Catherine
Catherine Tyhurst practises family law, criminal law, and child apprehension matters involving the Ministry of Children and Families. Before law school, Catherine worked as an anthropologist, studying linguistics and economic development at the University of British Columbia and McGill University, and lived for several years in the Solomon Islands, producing a semantic dictionary and grammar of two previously unwritten languages. Catherine earned a law degree from the University of Victoria, graduating in 1990, and was called to the bar in 1991. Catherine has appeared before the Provincial Court, Supreme Court, and Court of Appeal of British Columbia, handling matters from small claims to serious criminal charges, and has argued two cases before the Supreme Court of Canada alongside partner Peter Firestone.
