About Caraid
Caraid McGinty is an associate whose practice is centered on criminal appeals, drawing on a research background in mental health and disability law and its intersection with the carceral system. She completed a B.A. in Criminology, Anthropology and Political Science with honours at the University of Toronto, where she supported Professor Akwasi Owusu-Bempah's research and started a panel promoting gender diversity in anthropology. She then earned her J.D. at Dalhousie University, working as a research assistant for two leading scholars in mental health and disability law and completing a term at the Dalhousie Legal Aid Clinic, for which she received the Dianne Pothier Memorial Prize. Caraid was called to the bar in Nova Scotia in 2024 after articling at a major Atlantic Canada firm, then returned to Toronto to practise family law at two boutique firms before joining the firm. She is a member of the Law Society of Ontario and a non-practising member of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society. She also belongs to Women in Canadian Criminal Defence and the Criminal Lawyers' Association.
