About Brian
Brian E. Devlin, K.C. is a partner at O'Brien Devlin MacLeod in Calgary, practicing both criminal defence and medical malpractice and personal injury litigation. He earned his law degree from the University of Windsor in 1976, articled with Bennett Jones under Jack Major, K.C., and was admitted to the Alberta Law Society in June 1977, when he formed the firm together with Noel O'Brien. Brian has conducted approximately 20 full medical malpractice trials, six of which were also litigated at the Court of Appeal, and has represented plaintiffs in hundreds of medical malpractice matters spanning obstetrical, orthopaedic, oncology and other specialties. He has also defended clients on criminal charges ranging from impaired driving to first-degree murder, appearing at all levels of court in Alberta and before the Supreme Court of Canada. He is co-author of 'A Practical Guide to Medical Malpractice Litigation, A Plaintiff's Perspective' (2011), was named Calgary Lawyer of the Year for medical negligence in 2014, and was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2016.
