About Brett
Brett McGarry is an Ottawa criminal defence lawyer who has practised criminal defence law since his call to the Bar of Ontario in 2008, working primarily as a sole practitioner. He earned his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Political Studies and Philosophy from Queen's University in 2004 and graduated from Dalhousie Law School in 2007, where he represented students in disciplinary and academic proceedings. During law school he also worked with a national law firm assisting on regulatory offences and professional misconduct allegations against doctors, and he articled for judges of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in 2007, conducting legal research on trials for murder, manslaughter, fraud and sexual assault. He has also worked at a leading Ottawa law firm in criminal defence and personal injury law. Brett served two terms as a trustee on the board of the County of Carleton Law Association and remains involved with its Criminal Law Conference planning committee. He represents clients throughout Ottawa and eastern Ontario, including Cornwall, Brockville, Smiths Falls, Carleton Place, Perth, Renfrew, Pembroke and Kingston.
