About Blaine
Blaine Beaven has practiced with Scott & Beaven Law Office since 2012, having grown up in Northern British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan and was called to the bar in 2010, building a career providing high-quality criminal defence, including a number of high-profile homicide files and jury trials at all levels of court. In 2018 he was appointed a part-time member of the Transportation Appeal Tribunal of Canada in the aviation sector, and in 2019 he was appointed an Inquest Coroner for Saskatchewan, presiding over the Multiple Casualty Inquest into the James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon, SK deaths in January 2024. Due to his firearms law expertise, Blaine was appointed Senior Legal Counsel to the Saskatchewan Firearms Office in 2022 and helped draft the Saskatchewan Firearms Act; in March 2026 he became the Saskatchewan Firearms Commissioner and stepped back from criminal defence and coroner work. He continues to mentor the firm's criminal defence lawyers and is moving into a part-time real estate solicitor practice. Blaine and his children are citizens of the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan.
