About Bernard

Bernard Lau is the founding lawyer of Bernard Lau and Co. His practice covers civil litigation and real estate law, with an emphasis on non-strata property litigation, deposit forfeitures and builders' liens, alongside a conveyancing practice assisting clients with the purchase, sale and refinancing of homes. He also provides personal estate planning services, including drafting wills, powers of attorney, representation agreements and advance directives, and assisting with probate applications. Bernard has appeared as lead counsel at all levels of court in British Columbia, including the BC Provincial Court, BC Supreme Court and BC Court of Appeal, representing purchasers, sellers, builders and homeowners in real estate matters. He earned his Bachelor of Commerce in Finance and Real Estate (Honours) from the UBC Sauder School of Business in 2007 and his Juris Doctor from the UBC Faculty of Law in 2011. He has contributed legal research to published papers on bankruptcy and insolvency law and has provided legal commentary to national and Chinese-language media outlets including the Vancouver Sun, Global News, Sing Tao and Ming Pao. He speaks fluent Cantonese, Mandarin and English.
