About A.W.

A.W. McGarvey grew up in East Vancouver and earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of British Columbia in 1977, followed by a law degree from the University of Windsor in 1980. He articled locally and was called to the bar in 1984, and has practised criminal defence and personal injury law on Vancouver Island since then. From 1987 to 1994 he also served as an ad hoc Crown prosecutor, and he has appeared before the Provincial Court, Supreme Court, and Court of Appeal of British Columbia. He has belonged to the Canadian Bar Association for more than 45 years, is a founding member of the North Island Criminal Lawyers Association, and has been a Benefactor Level member of the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia since 1983. He has been a member of the Law Society of British Columbia since 1984.
