About Access Law Group

Access Law Group is a small Vancouver association of lawyers and paralegal professionals, based out of a single office on West Pender Street in the city's downtown core. It's built around two lawyers, with a practice that runs across civil litigation, personal injury, municipal law, employment and human rights, and wills and estates work for business, nonprofit, and individual clients.

One of the two lawyers, Derek Creighton, was called to the bar in British Columbia in 1979 after an LLB from the University of British Columbia, and has spent decades in trial work covering major personal injury and wrongful death claims, municipal and government litigation, and commercial and construction disputes. That work has also included teaching for organizations such as the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia and the BC Justice Institute.

The firm's other lawyer, Emily Creighton, took a less usual route into practice: joining Access Law Group as a legal assistant before being called to the bar, moving up to paralegal, and returning to the firm as a lawyer after finishing a law degree at the University of British Columbia. Called to the bar in 2020, Emily Creighton now handles personal injury, wrongful dismissal, contract disputes, and wills and estates matters, and volunteers with Special Olympics BC outside the office.
