About Ally Workplace Law

Ally Workplace Law is a small employment and labour law firm based in North Vancouver, British Columbia. Kirsten Hume Scrimshaw founded the firm in 2016, and Andrea Zappavigna joined as a partner in 2019 after the two had worked together earlier in their careers. The firm represents employers, not employees, on the full range of workplace issues: discipline, terminations, human rights complaints, disability accommodation, and workers' compensation matters.

Between them, the partners bring decades of experience. Scrimshaw has practised employment and labour law for 20 years and has appeared at all levels of court in British Columbia, while Zappavigna has practised labour and employment law exclusively for over 15 years, with a litigation background at labour arbitrations and the BC Labour Relations Board. The firm also advises on collective agreement interpretation and bargaining, conducts independent workplace investigations, and represents employers before the Human Rights Tribunal, the Employment Standards Tribunal, and WorkSafeBC.

Scrimshaw has also worked with First Nations and Aboriginal organizations on governance, policy, and employment capacity building, developing an understanding of the issues councils and boards face as employers.
