About AT Family Law & Mediation

AT Family Law & Mediation is a family law and mediation practice in Courtenay, BC, serving the Comox Valley and communities across northern Vancouver Island. It isn't a traditional partnership: the firm operates as a space sharing arrangement between two independent practices, Katherine Tinmouth Law Corporation and Arden Ackerman, and both lawyers also work as trained mediators. The firm handles property division, parenting arrangements, child and spousal support, cohabitation and separation agreements, and divorce, with an emphasis on negotiated and mediated outcomes over litigation.

Katherine Tinmouth was called to the bar in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 2008 and has practiced in British Columbia since 2010, after early experience in insurance litigation and corporate-commercial disputes and several years handling high-conflict family law files at a Vancouver firm. Arden Ackerman was admitted to the Alberta bar in 2015 and the British Columbia bar in 2017, holds a J.D. from the University of Calgary and a B.A. from the University of Victoria, and focuses on out-of-court resolutions and bringing children's perspectives into family law disputes through work with the BC Hear the Child Society.
