Coastal Family Law and Mediation is a small family law practice in Comox, British Columbia, on Vancouver Island. The firm was formerly known as Atkinson Family Law, and its original web address now redirects to the current site. Lawyer Laura Atkinson leads the practice as a certified mediator, working alongside lawyer Alana Zanbilowicz and designated paralegals Catherine Steele and Kaytlyn Steele. The practice is limited to family law. Coastal Family Law and Mediation handles separation and divorce, parenting arrangements, child and spousal support, and the division of family property and debt, along with cohabitation, prenuptial, and postnuptial agreements, adoption, and guardianship. Its mediation process starts with a separate 45 minute consultation for each party, followed by joint sessions of up to six hours, with a written summary and any resulting agreement included in the price. Clients who'd rather manage part of their file themselves can use the firm's legal coaching, which is billed only for the time spent. Atkinson has volunteered at an Access Pro Bono clinic through the Intercultural Association, drawing on a background that includes international development work and time living abroad.
