About Cook Law Firm

Cook Law Firm is a Markham based law firm with a single office on Woodbine Avenue, though its practice reaches across York, Durham, Peel, Halton, Simcoe, and Niagara. The firm started out doing residential real estate closings and mortgage refinances, and after roughly two decades of that focus it broadened into commercial real estate closings, wills, powers of attorney, family law, employment law, and corporate and business work. Founder Scott M. Cook was called to the Ontario bar in 1997 after earning a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School and undergraduate and education degrees from Queen's University. Before turning to law, Cook taught high school with the Toronto District School Board.

Three lawyers now practice at the firm. One associate came to real estate law after practicing family law and now works across both areas, while another holds a law degree from the University of Western Ontario and a business degree from the Richard Ivey School of Business and focuses on employment litigation, including wrongful dismissal disputes. Initial meetings with a lawyer don't carry a charge, and some employment law clients can use a deferred fee structure so payment can wait until a settlement or income resumes. Clients can meet at the Markham office, at one of the firm's satellite locations, or virtually.
