About Cross Border Visas

Cross Border Visas is a small Canadian law firm that focuses only on U.S. immigration law. It's run by two partners: Mark Dey, who works out of the firm's Aurora, Ontario office, and Douglas Cowgill, based in Surrey, British Columbia. Both are U.S.-licensed attorneys rather than lawyers called to a Canadian bar. Dey is a registered Foreign Legal Consultant with the Law Society of Ontario, and Cowgill is a registered Practitioner of Foreign Law with the Law Society of British Columbia.

Dey has practiced U.S. immigration law for more than 20 years and is licensed in Michigan and Illinois, with a career that has included Detroit, Chicago, and Toronto. Before starting Cross Border Visas with Cowgill, Dey was a founding partner at one of Canada's largest immigration firms. Cowgill is licensed in Washington State, belongs to the American Immigration Lawyers Association, and holds a B.A. and J.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Ronald A. Zisman, a U.S. immigration lawyer with nearly 40 years of experience, serves in an Of Counsel capacity.

The firm handles nonimmigrant work visas such as TN, E-1, E-2, H-1B, L-1, and O-1 status, along with employment and family-based permanent residence, waivers for clients with a prior criminal or immigration issue, and citizenship or renunciation matters. Its attorneys have also written on TN qualified professions, E-1 and E-2 treaty visas, and the loss of U.S. citizenship.
