About Fernandes Law Office P.C.

Fernandes Law Office P.C. is a family and immigration law firm on Riverside Drive East in downtown Windsor, Ontario. Founder Maria Fernandes earned a bachelor of nursing from the University of Windsor in 1993, followed by a bachelor of education and a law degree from the same university. Maria Fernandes was called to the Ontario bar in February 2000 and opened the firm that March, in Suite 112 at 111 Riverside Drive East. Before practicing law, the founder worked as a nurse at Hotel Dieu Hospital in Windsor and at hospitals in Michigan.

The firm has built its practice around two areas: family law, covering divorce, custody, and child and spousal support, and immigration law, covering permanent residence applications, family sponsorship, and appeals. As the caseload grew, the firm hired a family law assistant and an immigration assistant in 2001, and by November 2004 it had expanded into the neighbouring suite to double its office space. Fernandes Law has now practiced from the same Riverside Drive East address for more than two decades, appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice, the Superior Court of Justice, and the Ontario Court of Appeal.
