Does Jane McKenzie Family Law handle anything other than family law?

No. It's a solo practice in Waterloo that works exclusively on family law, so divorce, parenting, child support, and child protection are the whole of what it does, not a sideline.

What kinds of family cases does the firm take on?

Divorce, both contested and uncontested, parenting time and decision-making responsibility, child support and its enforcement, relocation and mobility cases, emergency motions, restraining orders, motions to change an existing order, and Children's Aid Society matters including supervision orders and wardship.

I only need help with one document or one court date. Can I still hire the firm?

Yes. The firm offers limited scope retainers, so it can prepare or review a specific document, draft an agreement, or handle a selected court appearance without taking on your entire case.

Can I meet in the evening or on a weekend?

In person and remote appointments are both offered during the week, and evening and weekend meetings can be arranged remotely. That flexibility is aimed at clients who work weekdays or don't live in Waterloo.

I'm dealing with the Children's Aid Society. Is that something the firm does?

Yes. Child protection is a core part of the practice, and the firm defends clients in Children's Aid Society matters, including supervision orders and Society and Crown wardship.

If my case goes to court, where would it be heard?

Family matters for Waterloo Region are heard at the Waterloo Region courthouse at 85 Frederick Street in Kitchener, which handles family cases among its court types. The office is a short distance away in Uptown Waterloo.
