Michel Houle grew up on a farm in northern Alberta. Straight out of high school, Houle spent ten years as a paramedic in that province before turning to law, then earned a Juris Doctor at the University of Windsor in 2016 and articled in Kitchener.

J. Arthur Woods and William G. Clemens, who'd both lived in Woolwich Township all their lives, founded the firm in 1971. Woods has since retired. From the start, the two founders wanted to serve their own community with quality legal help that people could afford, that respected local culture, and that worked for rural clients as well as town ones.
As the practice grew, the founders moved it into a house on Memorial Avenue, and that house is still the firm's flagship location today.

The corporate and commercial group helps clients incorporate, keep an existing company in order, and buy or sell corporate assets, and it works alongside each client's accountant. Houle's corporate work centres mainly on incorporations, reorganizations and commercial leases.
The firm's lawyers help clients with their estate planning, and its lawyers, clerks and staff commit to guiding clients through estate administration with experience and compassion. Houle's estates work covers planning, including wills and powers of attorney, along with administering estates. Tiffany Bauman also practises in wills and estates, as well as real estate and corporate and commercial law.
Farm files are a large share of the firm's work: transferring quota, planning the succession of family farms, advising farm businesses, and buying and selling agricultural land. The firm takes pride in understanding what its farming community needs.

By appointmentThe Elmira office is at 9 Memorial Avenue. Elmira lies 15 kilometres north of Waterloo, close to where Waterloo Region meets Wellington County. The settlement was already known as Bristow's Corners in 1839, when it was given a post office, and Woolwich Township council renamed it Elmira in 1853.
The satellite offices are at 26 Wellington Street South in Drayton, 177 George Street in Arthur and 1245 Queens Bush Road in Wellesley. Drayton belongs to Mapleton Township and is home to the Drayton Festival Theatre, a renovated 1902 opera house. Arthur was once a village in its own right and became part of Wellington North on January 1, 1999. Wellesley is Waterloo Region's rural township in the northwest.
