About Woodstone Law

Woodstone Law Professional Corporation handles family law, wills and estate planning, estate litigation and business law, and you can work with the firm virtually or in person.

Help with legal costs is a real part of the practice. Its reduced-rate service is aimed at low- to moderate-income individuals and families who earn too much for traditional free pro bono services yet can't afford standard legal fees, and Woodstone Law is always happy to offer that help to those in need. The firm is also recruiting lawyers who'll commit, by contract, to serving clients who are low-income or eligible for Legal Aid Ontario.

If you're heading for an uncontested divorce, a common path here begins with a free consultation, followed by financial disclosure and then a draft separation agreement that you review. After that, the firm discusses the terms with the other party's lawyer, and the uncontested divorce application is filed last.

Wills and estate planning work is billed at standard rates whenever it doesn't stray far from the firm's usual templates and processes, while complex or uneven distribution wills and powers of attorney are quoted separately. Virtual consultations are available, and in-person meetings are by appointment at 99 Yorkville Ave, Suite 200 in Toronto, 5200 Yonge Street, Suite 200 in North York, and 49 High Street, 3rd floor in Barrie.

Mediation with lawyers alongside

Every Woodstone Law mediator has been to law school, and they work with the firm's family lawyers on the legal steps that can come after mediation. There's also a lawyer-supported option: the mediator stays neutral while each person gets advice from their own lawyer, who may join or help with the sessions.

Our guide: How to Get a Divorce in Ontario

Dual wills and probate packages

A standard will package with powers of attorney, for straightforward plans, starts at $599 plus HST per person. The corporate or dual wills package, which aims to cut Ontario probate fees by splitting assets between one will that goes through probate and one that doesn't, starts at $999 plus HST per person. Probate help runs from $2,199 plus HST with a will and from $2,399 plus HST without one, and the no-will package adds advertising for creditors and paperwork to waive the bond requirement. (Fees as of October 2026.)

Estate disputes

On the litigation side, the first step is pinning down your role: beneficiary, estate trustee, or someone else with a stake in the estate. If estate accounts are in question, bring the actual accounts or statements you've received instead of leaning only on a verbal summary.

Incorporation and commercial leases

Federal and provincial incorporations start at $799 plus HST and disbursements, and a professional corporation at $999 plus HST and disbursements. The package covers name searches, registration, the articles and certificate, and a minute book. On commercial leases, the firm acts for landlords, tenants, property management companies and investors. (Fees as of October 2026.)

How Woodstone Law works

Woodstone Law commits to handling its reduced-rate and legal aid files with the same diligence, professionalism and compassion as any other case. It puts weight on clear and open communication with clients, and it offers its services both virtually and in person for flexibility and accessibility.

In the community

  • The firm has published Ontario guides covering family law, estate disputes, and wills and estates.
  • The firm's news post on finding a pro bono or legal aid lawyer in Ontario answers what to do if you can't afford a lawyer. One option it points to is JusticeNet, a non-profit Ontario service designed to improve access to justice for people whose income is too high for legal aid yet too low to cover standard legal fees.

The neighbourhood

Toronto clients can meet Woodstone Law virtually or in person at its Yorkville office. Yorkville is a former village, roughly bounded by Bloor Street, Davenport Road, Yonge Street and Avenue Road, that began as its own community in 1830 and became part of Toronto in 1883. North of Bloor, on Yorkville and Cumberland streets, the buildings get smaller and hold galleries, ground-floor shops and restaurants. Along the same street, 100 Yorkville Avenue is where the Toronto Hebrew Maternity and Convalescent Hospital opened in 1923, renamed Mount Sinai Hospital a year later.

In North York, the firm meets clients at an office on Yonge Street. The road was long the main route north out of Toronto, and it carried the Provincial Highway 11 designation from 1920 until 1998.

The Barrie office serves clients in Barrie and Simcoe County. Barrie sits on the shores of Kempenfelt Bay and lies within Simcoe County geographically, though it's a single-tier city that's politically separate from the county.

Frequently asked questions

Does Woodstone Law run its family mediation inside its family law department?
Yes. Mediation at Woodstone Law sits inside the family-law department. Once both people agree on terms, the file can go on to a written separation agreement without anyone having to rebuild the whole background with an unrelated provider.
How quickly will Woodstone Law tell me whether I qualify for its reduced-rate program?
Woodstone Law commits to a reply within a week on your eligibility and on whether it has room to take your case. It may ask for proof of income such as recent tax returns or pay stubs, and eligibility turns mainly on income, the kind of legal issue and the firm's available resources. The reduced rates apply across every service the firm offers.
How long after I return Woodstone Law's estate planning questionnaire will I see draft documents?
Woodstone Law sets aside two weeks, once the questionnaire and retainer fee are in, to review and prepare your estate documents, and then shares an electronic draft for you to check. Within two weeks after the signing, you'll get a report on the work done along with recommendations for the future. The process begins with a free 30-minute estate planning consultation.
Does Woodstone Law give 30 days' notice before adjusting its family law fees?
Yes. Woodstone Law commits to notifying clients at least 30 days before any change to its fees. Beyond professional fees, clients cover incurred expenses and disbursements, such as courier or document delivery fees, court filing fees, government fees and necessary searches, whatever the outcome of the file.
Does Woodstone Law set a fixed fee for estate disputes the way it prices wills?
Woodstone Law doesn't promise a fixed fee for every estate dispute. Before you retain the firm, it asks you to talk through what's included and how it'll handle estimates or a change in scope.
Can I meet Woodstone Law at its Yorkville office on a weekend?
Woodstone Law's Toronto office takes appointments Monday to Friday between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., and it's closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Since meetings are by appointment, confirm your time before you go.
