About VisaPlace Legal

VisaPlace Legal is an immigration law firm headquartered in Toronto, at 100 King Street West in the city's Financial District. Michael Niren, a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School and a member of Ontario's law society, started an immigration law practice in 1997 that grew into what is now VisaPlace Legal. Niren serves as President and Managing Partner of VisaPlace Legal Canada and is also the founder of VisaPlace Legal US, registered in Washington, D.C. That dual setup lets the firm act as counsel on immigration files that cross the border in either direction, from Canadians moving south to Americans coming north.

Cases are handled by a team the firm describes as lawyers, licensed paralegals, and immigration consultants with more than 40 years of combined experience. On the Canadian side, the practice covers Express Entry and provincial nominee applications, family sponsorship, work and study permits, citizenship, and cases involving inadmissibility, such as temporary resident permits and criminal rehabilitation applications for people who have been turned away at the border. On the US side it handles green cards, family and employment based visas, and investor visas including the E-2 and EB-5. Niren and the firm's immigration team are also regularly interviewed by national media, including CBC, CTV, Global News, and the Toronto Star, on immigration policy developments.

Who handles what

The neighbourhood

VisaPlace Legal's Toronto office is at 100 King Street West, Suite 5700, inside First Canadian Place. The tower sits at King and Bay streets in the heart of Toronto's Financial District and was Canada's tallest building from 1975 until 2025. It also houses several of the country's large law firms and connects underground to the PATH network, Toronto's downtown pedestrian system.

Meetings at the office are by appointment only. Given that most of the firm's work involves clients who are trying to get into Canada or the US rather than clients already living downtown, a lot of the day to day contact happens by phone and video instead of in person. Beyond Toronto, the firm keeps smaller offices in Vancouver, Miami, Washington, D.C., and Jacksonville for clients who can't get to the Toronto office; Toronto is where the firm is headquartered.
