Tanner & Guiney is a small Toronto litigation firm founded in November 1996 by Robert (Bob) Tanner and David Guiney. It's built around commercial and personal litigation, representing individuals and businesses in Ontario's superior and appellate courts, with a focus on legal work for credit unions. Robert Tanner has practiced civil litigation in Toronto since 1979, handling bankruptcy and insolvency, professional liability, employment, and banking and commercial disputes, and has acted as counsel to Credit Union Central of Canada, Credit Union Central of Ontario, and credit unions across the province. Tanner graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School of York University and was called to the bar in 1979.

David Guiney, the firm's co-founding partner, practiced corporate and commercial law there from 1996 until leaving the practice of law in 2008. Guiney served as general corporate counsel to Credit Union Central of Canada and Credit Union Central of Ontario and advised credit unions on share offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and lending matters. Over the years, the firm's lawyers wrote and spoke regularly for the Credit Union Professionals Association and Credit Union Central of Ontario, on subjects ranging from privacy legislation to the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act.
