Douglas J. Millstone is a solo practitioner who has practiced law in Scarborough since being called to the Ontario bar on April 8, 1976. The practice covers family law, wills and powers of attorney, estate work, and real estate, with family law as the focus since the beginning. Millstone has represented children in child welfare and custody and access proceedings for decades as a member of the panel of lawyers representing children with the Office of the Children's Lawyer, a role held since 1979.

The firm favours Collaborative Family Law and mediation over litigation for separating couples, an approach that grew out of Millstone's history as a founding member and former Executive Committee treasurer of Collaborative Practice Toronto from 2001 to 2018, and continuing membership in the Collaborative Family Law Association of Durham Region since 2003.
