The area takes its name from Norman Milliken, who settled there around 1807 and ran a lumber business; the community became a postal village in 1858. Milliken stayed largely agricultural until the 1970s, when the area's farmland gave way to the subdivisions and condominiums that make up the neighbourhood today, home to a diverse, multicultural population.
