Pierlot Pension Law is a small Toronto advisory firm working at the intersection of law, public policy, and institutional governance. Founded in 2011 by James Pierlot, it advises public and private sector clients on the design, regulation, governance, and administration of retirement programs, and gives policy advice to governments on retirement income security, investment regulation, and tax and fiscal policy. Its office is on University Avenue in downtown Toronto.
Pierlot holds a taxation law degree and a common law degree, both from Osgoode Hall Law School, a civil law degree from the Universite de Montreal, a history degree from Western University, and a diploma in international and European law from the Universite d'Aix Marseille III, and is fluent in English and French. Pierlot has chaired the Ontario Bar Association's Pensions and Benefits Law Executive Committee, chaired the Financial Services Commission of Ontario's Legal Advisory Committee until 2019, and now sits on the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario's Stakeholder Advisory Committee for pensions and on the C.D. Howe Institute's Pension Policy Council as a Senior Fellow. Pierlot also founded Blue Pier, a pension plan as a service platform built for employers of any size across Canada.
Wheelchair accessibleThe firm's office sits in the Morningstar DBRS Tower at 181 University Avenue, part of downtown Toronto's institutional corridor. The building is known as the Morningstar DBRS Tower and sits among other financial sector offices along the avenue, a short walk from Osgoode Hall and the Toronto Courthouse.
