About Peeters Family Law

Peeters Family Law is a solo family law practice on Roncesvalles Avenue in Toronto, run by lawyer and mediator Jacqueline Peeters. The practice stays entirely out of court: separation and divorce, cohabitation agreements and marriage contracts, unbundled or limited scope services, and family mediation. Clients choose between traditional negotiation, the Collaborative process, or mediation, and whichever route they take, the resolution is written into a legally binding separation agreement or domestic contract.

Peeters graduated from the University of Toronto's law school in 2001, articled at a large Bay Street firm, and has practiced family law exclusively since 2003. Litigation work in courts across the Greater Toronto Area eventually led toward Collaborative Practice, and in early 2019 the practice stopped taking new court files altogether to focus on settlement outside the courtroom. Law school itself came only after years spent raising three children and other work, with the degree finished at 40.

The firm charges a flat $300 (plus HST) for an initial consultation instead of billing by the clock, so clients aren't watching the time during that first meeting. Peeters also serves as a continuing director of the Collaborative Family Law Association of Ontario, Toronto Group, the city's network for collaboratively trained family law professionals, branded Collaborative Divorce Toronto.
