Free consultationGenereux Law Professional Corporation, known as G-LAW, is a solo entertainment law practice in downtown Toronto led by William Genereux. The firm's own site says it has been navigating legal strategies since 1985. Its focus is the entertainment industry, covering music, media, branding, licensing, recording agreements and music publishing, alongside corporate work, litigation and general counsel services such as estate planning, wills and family law for entertainment professionals and their companies. Genereux holds a BA and JD from Osgoode Hall Law School and began practicing in the mid-1980s at a 100-lawyer firm with a diverse client base, later becoming a partner there before opening an independent practice.
Genereux's own history in the entertainment business runs alongside the legal work. In the 1990s Genereux co-owned and operated an indie dance record label that released multiple platinum and gold albums. That combination of transactional and litigation experience is unusual for one lawyer to carry, and the firm's site notes it directly. Genereux belongs to the International Association of Entertainment Lawyers and co-edited its 2021 publication Nationalism vs. Globalism. The firm operates out of a shared office space with roughly 50 other lawyers and staff, and it sells a small line of G-LAW branded merchandise, a nod to Genereux's music industry roots.

Free consultationG-LAW's main office is at 197 Spadina Avenue, right in the stretch of Spadina between Queen and King that was Toronto's historic Garment District, now more often called the Fashion District. The area grew up around textile factories and clothing wholesalers making use of nearby rail and shipping links, and many of those old industrial buildings have since been converted into offices, studios and lofts for a mix of creative and professional tenants. For a law firm built around music, branding and entertainment work, it's a fitting stretch of the city to be based in, even if the surrounding businesses have changed since the neighbourhood's garment trade days.
The firm also keeps a second, Midtown Toronto location that operates by appointment only, so most client meetings happen at the Spadina Avenue office rather than the Midtown space.
