Family law appeals

The firm advises parents on whether to appeal a family-law decision in Ontario, which court to go to and how to do it. That work runs from checking the correct route and deadlines, and weighing alternatives such as a motion to change, through to preparing the record, factum and argument when an appeal goes ahead.

Hague Convention and international child abduction

Mida Law acts for parents whose child has been taken out of Ontario or brought here, and for parents worried that a child may be removed. The work can include dealing with the relevant Central Authority, preparing or answering a return application, gathering evidence and coordinating with the process in the other country.

Muslim family law guidance

For Muslim individuals and families working through separation, parenting, support or agreements, the firm offers culturally aware guidance within Ontario law. It can also explain how a civil divorce in Ontario and a religious divorce interact, while keeping the Ontario legal requirements clear.

Wills, Islamic wills and probate

Mida Law prepares wills and powers of attorney in plain language, including Islamic wills that balance the requirements of Ontario's Succession Law Reform Act with Shariah inheritance principles. Estate trustees can find out whether probate (a Certificate of Appointment of Estate Trustee) may be required, get help with the application and be guided through their duties.

Family, student and visitor immigration

Immigration work at the firm covers two streams: family and personal matters, and academic and student matters. In practice that means sponsoring a spouse, partner or dependent child for permanent residence (including partners living outside Canada), study permit applications, extensions and student refusals, and visitor visas and extensions of visitor status.

Notary public and commissioner of oaths

Mida Law provides both notary public and commissioner of oaths services from its North York office, by appointment. Common requests range from affidavits and statutory declarations used in immigration or government applications to certified copies of passports and diplomas, travel consent letters for children, and invitation letters.

Independent legal advice

Anyone asked to sign a marriage contract, a cohabitation agreement or a separation agreement can get advice from a Mida Law lawyer who isn't acting for the other party. Where appropriate, the firm issues the certificate of independent legal advice at the same appointment.
