Can David Botnick help my partner and me put together a marriage contract or cohabitation agreement?

Yes. The office prepares custom marriage contracts and cohabitation agreements for couples who are marrying or entering a common law relationship, tailored to the rights each person wants protected. A first consultation is offered at a reduced rate and scheduled at the client's convenience.

Does the office give a flat rate quote for a real estate closing?

For most real estate transactions, flat rate quotations are available by phone. The office also provides title insurance and electronic registration of documents, and handles each step of a purchase or sale personally, from reviewing the offer to closing.

Can my spouse and I get our wills and powers of attorney done together?

Yes. Married couples can have two wills and two continuing powers of attorney prepared together as a package. Without a continuing power of attorney, the Public Guardian and Trustee of Ontario becomes the guardian of a person's property if they become mentally incapable, so the office recommends both documents for everyone.

Can I get a document notarized without booking an appointment first?

Most notary public services, including notarized affidavits, declarations, consent to travel forms, and certified documents, are available on a walk in basis, starting at as little as $40.

How long has David Botnick been practicing law, and in what areas?

The lawyer has practiced family law, real estate, and wills and estates since 1983, and has also written plain language legal guides for the public, including the Ontario Divorce Kit and the Ontario Probate Kit, published by Self-Counsel Press.

Can I book an evening or weekend appointment?

Yes. Appointments are generally available most evenings until 7 pm, and weekend appointments can be arranged too. Telephone messages are typically returned within a day.
