Virtual appointmentsMatrona Law Professional Corporation is a small litigation firm working out of an office on University Avenue in downtown Toronto's financial district. Niki Kanavas founded the firm in 2018 after spending nearly a decade in law and academia, and still runs it as a sole practitioner. The practice focuses on corporate and commercial litigation, construction law, and real property disputes, and it also takes on appeals, representing clients before the Divisional Court, the Ontario Court of Appeal, and the Federal Court of Appeal in intellectual property matters. Real estate transactions, as opposed to real estate disputes, are handled in affiliation with a related firm, Kanavas Law.
Kanavas earned an Honours BA in 2005, studied English and European law in the United Kingdom on the way to a law degree completed in 2011, and finished a Master of Laws in San Diego in 2015 with a focus on civil litigation, intellectual property, and pharmaceutical law. Since 2015, Kanavas has also taught as a professor at Seneca Polytechnic and contributed to legal textbooks, and serves as of counsel at Goldmans LLP alongside running Matrona Law. The firm's own name traces back to Kanavas's first name, Matrona.

Flat feeMatrona Law's office sits at 55 University Avenue, at the corner of University and Wellington in Toronto's financial district, a stretch of the city dominated by bank towers and corporate head offices. The building connects directly to the PATH network and to St. Andrew subway station, so clients coming from elsewhere in the city by transit can reach the office largely underground.
Litigation work tends to lead to court, and University Avenue runs straight to it. Further up the same street sits the Toronto Courthouse at 361 University Avenue, a branch of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice that hears criminal and family matters. For a firm built around corporate, commercial, and construction litigation, that's a genuinely practical spot to be based.
