About Madamser Law
Madamser Law is a small firm on Willowdale Avenue in the North York area of Toronto, run by Dheeraj Bhatia as a barrister and solicitor. The firm's name traces back to India, where Dheeraj Bhatia's parents opened a law practice called Madamser in 1959. The name combines Madam, for the founder's mother, and ser, for the founder's lawyer father, and the practice stayed in the family: an elder brother joined the India firm in 1989 and continues to run it there today alongside other lawyers. Dheeraj Bhatia trained internationally, qualified to practise law in Ontario, and brought the family name to Canada by opening Madamser Law in Toronto, working first as an associate and then as a partner at another firm before doing so.
The Toronto practice covers business and commercial law, including commercial leasing, franchising, and commercial contracts, along with residential and commercial real estate, civil litigation, wills and estates, incorporations, and intellectual property work in trademarks and copyright. Willowdale grew out of three smaller postal villages, Newtonbrook, Willowdale, and Lansing, that eventually consolidated under the Willowdale name.
