About L|A Law

L|A Law is a single lawyer practice in downtown Toronto focused on two areas: criminal defence and immigration, refugee, and citizenship law. On the criminal side, the firm takes on bail hearings, assault and aggravated assault charges, theft and fraud, domestic assault, and sexual assault matters. On the immigration side, it handles refugee hearings, business immigration categories, Express Entry applications, visitor visas, family and spousal sponsorships, work permits, humanitarian and compassionate applications, and study permits. The practice is on the Legal Aid Ontario roster and accepts legal aid certificates for criminal law and refugee matters.

The firm's lawyer, Laheeb Akbarzad, holds an LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School and a Master of Public Policy from Germany, and is licensed as a Barrister and Solicitor by the Law Society of Ontario. Before turning to criminal and immigration law, Akbarzad's background included work with international organizations such as USAID, the U.S. State Department's INL project, and the World Bank, along with several Toronto nonprofits focused on community development. Akbarzad completed the Law Practice Program at Ryerson University and articled at a criminal law firm in Toronto. The practice serves clients in English, Dari/Farsi, Pashto, and Urdu/Hindi.
