JT Defence Law is a criminal defence firm operating from a single office at 181 University Avenue in downtown Toronto, under the name Jacques | Tsimiklis Criminal Defence Lawyers. It represents clients across Ontario in bail hearings, impaired driving, drug possession and trafficking, fraud, firearms offences, homicide, and criminal harassment, along with professional and regulatory discipline proceedings.
Senior counsel George Tsimiklis was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1993 after articling in Ottawa under Michael Neville, Robert Selkirk, and Ken Hall, and built a defence practice there before continuing the work more broadly across Ontario. Over more than three decades, Tsimiklis has appeared before the Quebec Provincial Court, the Ontario Court of Appeal, and the Federal Court of Appeal, and has acted as a consultant in fraud related litigation before the High Court of England.
The firm's other criminal defence lawyer, Jacques Tynes, was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 2020 and the Ontario Bar in 2025 after graduating from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University, where Tynes placed in the top 10 in Canada at the Gale Cup National Moot. Tynes started out articling under Nova Scotia defence counsel and working for that province's Provincial Prosecution Service before moving into criminal defence work that now spans Alberta, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec, and Ontario.
JT Defence Law's office is at 181 University Avenue, Suite 2200, a 22 storey tower built in 1975 that forms part of the Adelaide Place complex in Toronto's financial core and connects into the city's underground PATH network. University Avenue is a prominent civic street in Toronto, home to courts and legal institutions such as Osgoode Hall, alongside government buildings and, farther north, several major hospitals. For a criminal defence practice, working out of this stretch of downtown puts the firm close to the courts, tribunals, and legal community it deals with day to day.
